Every couple is special and we make no distinction between heterosexual intended parents and gay intended parents. We focus on the desire and the intent of a couple to create their own family.

CSP helped its first gay couple become parents in 1989. We believe that all our intended parents deserve to be treated with dignity, compassion and respect. We do require that our clients be in a committed relationship, and we cannot work with single individuals. We bring years of experience to each case. There is just no substitute for the value of working with a renowned and well-established agency, especially when making this very important life changing decision.

Read surrogacy stories from our gay couples

Sam & Mark

Our experience with CSP could not have been more positive or stress-free. From the very outset, they sought to understand us as a couple, our goals in having a family, and our needs and desires from the process, and then carefully worked to match us with a surrogate that would be a strong fit for us. Our surrogate, and her family, were a great match for us, and we hit it off from from the very first meeting. They were close, communicative partners for us throughout both our pregnancies, and continue to be good friends of our entire families to this day.

From a process perspective, CSP held our hands through the entire thing, virtually eliminating the guesswork and stress that could have been associated with such a huge turning point in our lives. They placed both us, and our surrogate, in the right support infrastructure in order to guide us through the process, and put us at ease throughout our journey.

I've recommended CSP to many other couples that are considering surrogacy. For such a huge undertaking in our lives, CSP made it a clear, stress free, and truly happy experience. We couldn't have asked for any more positive experience!

Sam & Mark

Mark and Peter

Our Family Story

By the time we were ready to have children of our own we were in our early thirties, we'd been together for 11 years and we'd both completed specialist medical training. Even though we knew of no other male couples who'd raised children together from birth, our research confirmed our gut instinct - we could be as good parents as any. We'd spoken to our family and friends and criss-crossed the internet for some years considering our parenting options.

One of the important reasons why we chose to have our children via surrogacy was that we wanted to give our prospective children the family security and stability which we both enjoyed as children. We wanted our children to grow up knowing that we (and only we) would be fully accountable to, and responsible for, them. This meant not only preparing for the nurturing aspects of parenting but in our instance as a committed gay couple also to cover our legal bases. Our very helpful attorney here in our country advised us that pursuing surrogacy in California would be our absolute best avenue.

Many options presented themselves again - should we pursue a private arrangement, or if we were to work via an agency, which one? After reading the book, "Getting Simon", (well worth the read for any gay couple thinking of having kids) we knew we needed to work via an agency. CSP was not the only agency with whom we made initial contact. We considered our options. We made our decision to work with CSP on our instinct that they'd give us our best chance for a successful pregnancy and healthy children regardless of our sexuality as prospective parents. And we were right! Having our twin sons with the help of CSP was by far the most logistically complex thing that we've ever done.

The mind boggles considering that it involved the staff at CSP, our surrogate mum and her family, our egg donor (from outside of California), our counselor, our fertility specialist and his team, our surrogate mum's OBGYN, our attorney from home as well as our California attorneys & the Pediatrician & nurses at the hospital where in the end our surrogate mum would give birth! Oh and at the end of it all our boys came home with us to our country! In spite of all of this our pregnancy was an utter success!

Our boys are now almost one-and-a-half years old, our lives have been turned upside down, and there is no better feeling to us than that of being proud parents of the two most gorgeous children that ever lived (well OK we are a bit biased).

The most extraordinary thing about being gay parents& is just how ordinary our family is!

From the first point of contact with CSP in early 2000, to our face-to-face meeting in California in August, to our meeting our surrogate mum just before Christmas that year, the embryo transfer and positive pregnancy test in May 2001 and the birth of our children in early 2002 everything literally went like clockwork! We appreciated and came to depend on the professionalism and personal integrity of CSP's staff.

In retrospect, we cannot fault the process CSP put in place to give us our greatest chance for healthy children and for the best possible experience, not only for us a couple, but also for our surrogate mum with whom we continue to be in close contact.

Considering that surrogacy is a by-and-large unregulated process, our admiration for CSP's staff for carefully managing every sensitive aspect of our complex journey is even that much greater. Would we have been able to have children some other way& probably& but from listening to, and hearing of, other gay couples experiences, our journey was smoother than that of any other couple that didn't work CSP. Would we have done it differently had we had out time over again& NO!

For us, there is no greater joy than parenthood. For helping us realize our dream of having our own little family...we thank you CSP.

Mark and Peter

Brian and Craig

Starting a Family

Our story has been a happy one so far. In our fifth year together, Craig and I decided to start a family. We considered all our options, and settled on surrogacy as a means of having a child. From the beginning, we were hyper-aware of the challenges facing us as gay parents, and sensitive to how different our child might feel with two dads. Deep inside, however, we've never doubted we were doing the right thing. What could be more wondrous than creating and nurturing a little life? We believed then, as we do now, that our children will grow up just fine if we make a home for them that is loving, compassionate, and respectful of all of God's creations.

Being busy professionals, we chose not to spend the time trying to go it on our own. Instead, we decided to engage an agency to walk us through all the steps. You need only google the words "surrogacy agency" to discover there are many, many programs out there. This is especially true in California because of the generally favorable legal climate towards recognizing surrogacy and egg donation agreements.

At first, it seemed natural that we should sign up with an agency that dealt primarily with gay couples. After all, they would understand our special situation. But we soon realized we were not that radically different from married straight couples who desired children, but for some reason, couldn't have any. So, we broadened our search. After interviewing several agencies and speaking with other couples in similar situations, we chose the Center for Surrogate Parenting. We felt they were the most experienced, respected, and well connected of all the programs. They had a proven track record. Their staff was genuine, honest, extremely motivated, and passionate about their work. At all times, they recognized our relationship, and supported our right to have a child and raise a family. In the end, we were not only impressed with their credentials, but felt we could trust them.

Since signing on, we've made steady progress - slow at first, but accelerating once we matched with a surrogate. In its role as a matchmaker, the Center takes great care to ensure proper screening and counseling for her surrogates and couples. Once a match is made, the Center chaperones the first meeting, and if all goes well, facilitates the professional relationship until the birth of the child. Craig and I have been fortunate to have a wonderful surrogate mom to work with. She personifies many of the typical surrogate's traits - altruistic, unselfish, and driven by the desire to help a couple realize their dream of having children.

At the time of this writing, Craig and I are just over twenty weeks pregnant with one child. Thank God, the pregnancy has gone smoothly so far. Like all expectant parents, we are excited, overjoyed, and a little nervous. They say our lives will be completely and forever changed when our baby is born.

Truthfully, it already has.

BRIAN AND CRAIG

Vince and Randall

Little Maddie Rose

Hello to all at CSP!

We are happy to say our new daughter has finally arrived!!

Little Maddie Rose was born on April 21st at 10:44pm, weighing in at a solid 9lbs, 1oz, and measuring 21 inches long. She's got a full head of dark hair, and some very strong lungs!

Luckily for our Sarah, once the pushing started, Maddie slipped out in just a few minutes, so fast that her little head was perfectly round. We don't have the words to describe what it was like, but suffice it to say it was quite amazing. We can't wait to introduce her to our friends and family as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for all your kindness and support and helping this day become a reality! Sarah was absolutely amazing. Throughout the whole process she was always so conscientious and thoughtful - you would have swore she had done this before! Her husband Matt was remarkable, he was not only there for Sarah but for us as well. We are so happy that we went with CSP. We truly don't think we could have had such a positive and professional experience with anyone else.

From an extremely happy, punch drunk set of new dads,

Vince and Randall

Home | Gay Surrogate Parenting | Success Gay Surrogacy Story | Surrogacy DVD | Contact Us

The Center for Surrogate Parenting, Inc.
